Grurrah: use cloth bags for vegetables instead of plastic

if you can sew a straight line, and have cotton fabric, new or used, but clean, you can make simple bags for your vegetable and fruit purchases.  you can make them a variety of sizes, basically fold over a rectangle at least 12 by 18 inches and sew up two sides to make a 9 by 12, bag.  larger bags are handy for corn, celery etc.  you can hem the raw edge, but if sewing the seams have already taxed your skills, don't worry about it.  if you are a machine sewer, you can make dozens of these easily and give them away to friends.  you can cut down on your plastic bag use to nothing, the more you make.  launder them with your towels.  even kids can make them, and with worn out clothing you are are doubling your virtuousness!
